Automobile Aluminum Electric Wire Production Base Set Up in Thailand

Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. and Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd. have decided to set up a production base for automobile aluminum electric wires in Thailand.
The two companies began mass production of wiring harnesses for automobiles using aluminum wires (aluminum harnesses) in 2010. Since then, they have promoted further technological development and this area of business has steadily expanded to meet the increasing need for wightweight automobiles as a means of achieveing better fuel efficiency.

Under the circumstances, anticipating an increase in the demand for automobile aluminum electric wires- in south-eastern Asia and China, the companies decided to set up their first aluminum wire production base in Thailand.
Specifically, SEI Thai Electric Conductor Co., Ltd., a group company of Sumitomo Electric, will build an automobile aluminum electrical wire factory on its premises, and begin mass production in September 2014. With the cutting-edge technology cultivated in Japan, the factory will actively capture the demand from the growing markets centering on Asia.
