The automobile parts industry is now in the midst of heavy competition. In order for SWS to win the global inter-corporate competition and establish ourselves as the market leader, it is essential for us to quickly and vigorously work on major issues, such as cost reduction, quality improvement, and response to the rapid expansion of overseas businesses.

Accordingly, we have recently started The Product Appeal No. 1 Activity from fiscal 2008. This is an activity to enhance development capabilities and product competitiveness, that is, the ability to suggest products that already reflect our customers? needs or products that please our customers. I expect new employees to try and create new benefits with innovative ideas and fresh sensitivity, instead of simply relying on existing frameworks or precedent.

So as you embark on your journey in the workforce, I would like you to keep the following three points in mind:

1. Be a person to be trusted by other people

Business is a team game, and results are produced through connections with many people, such as your boss at work and senior workers. It is important to establish good human relationships, where you can trust other people and other people can trust you. Please remember that you cannot produce high-quality products or high-value added output until you become a person to be trusted.

2. Be a person who can take an active part globally

Manufacturing relies on development of personnel. Although SWS has already been implementing production, development, and sales activities in 30 countries, it is required that all employees become people to be accepted by international standards in its true sense. To expand any business operations, regardless of whether you are in Japan or overseas, you must acquire the abilities required as a professional with a global mind in each particular field, so that you can consider matters from a global perspective. I expect you, our young personnel, will play an important role as global personnel at the forefront of actual work sites from the earliest possible time.

3. Always be healthy both mentally and physically

Satisfactory work cannot be done unless you are both mentally and physically healthy. I would like all new employees beginning working careers to adapt to new working and living environment and become good Sumitomo employees. I expect new employees to invigorate the worksite with your bounce and vigor. I also expect you will take good care of your health and enrich the long life ahead of you.

I greatly anticipate the fresh force you bring to form the basis of the future of SWS. I hope each of you will face this challenge to maximize your abilities.
