Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd. (SWS), under President Tadashi Shimokawa and having its head office in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture, Japan, and Suzuki Co., Ltd. (Suzuki), under President Noriyoshi Suzuki and having its head office in Suzaka City, Nagano Prefecture, Japan, have agreed that the two companies will establish a joint venture company that will manufacture connector components used in automobile wiring harnesses.
SWS is developing its automobile wiring harness business worldwide and currently holds the third largest share of the world market, supplying wiring harnesses to automakers all over the world. SWS has been strengthening its manufacturing base to respond to an expected increase in demand for harness connectors brought about by an increasing demand for automobile electronics. Suzuki's core businesses include manufacturing connector components for mobile phones and other electronic devices, precision dies for metal stamping, and supplying metal terminals and similar products to electronics makers. To enlarge the scale of its business, Suzuki has increased its production capacity by constructing new factories and has improved its electrical connectors for automobiles that were developed to enter the connector market. SWS and Suzuki have concluded the joint venture agreement because the two companies share the same vision regarding the aims expressed above. <Outline of new company>
