PRESS RELEASE: No.01
April 01, 2005
Outline of President's Greeting in Initiation Ceremony of Year 2005
Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.
Tadashi Shimokawa, President
SWS group has been developing overseas operations under the theme of ‘The Global 20', that aims to achieve a global share of 20% by the year 2010. To achieve this goal, we must improve quality and maintain it consistently, fundamentally reduce costs, and develop new technologies and products to meet the needs of car manufacturers in Japan and abroad. Therefore, we must establish a strong company structure.

To achieve that, we have set 'Speedy, Change, and Better Results' as the SWS group's policy. I, therefore, ask employees to (1) make every effort to increase the operation Speed; (2) positively seek any room for improvement regarding the methods currently used, and have the courage to Change them if necessary, without fear of innovation; and (3) work on daily operations with a firm intent to achieve Better Results.

I also ask new employees, who have entered the company today, to be always mindful of 'Speedy, Change, and Better Results'. I especially expect much of you young people, to challenge innovation more creatively than ever before with fresh and unique ideas. So, I would like you to keep the following three points in mind in your role as a new employee:

First: Be a person to be trusted by other people
Business is a team game, and results are produced through connections with many people, such as your boss at work and senior workers. Therefore, you must establish good human relationships, where you can trust other people and other people can trust you. First and foremost, I would like you to be an employee to be trusted. Please remember that only such an employee can achieve high quality work or products.

Second: Be a person who can take an active part globally
SWS group has already been implementing production, development, and sales activities in 27 countries. We need to enhance these businesses from the aspects of both quality and quantity while promoting globalization in its true sense. ‘Being accepted by international standards' means not simply that you can work the same way both in Japan and abroad, but that you have a broad outlook and ability at international level even though you work in Japan; and that you also have a wide knowledge and understanding of the culture and history of each country. I expect that, from the earliest possible date, you will play an important role as global personnel at the forefront of the actual work site.

Third: Always be healthy both mentally and physically
Satisfactory work cannot be done unless you are both mentally and physically healthy. Your living environment will greatly change from today on. I would like all new employees beginning as working people to make every effort to blend in with your boss and senior workers. I expect new employees to invigorate the work site with their bounce and vigor.

I have great hopes in you, the young force, who support the future of SWS group. I also expect that you will acquire the SWS mind and play a wide, active role, both in Japan and abroad.
