Awarded <Winter Eco-Style Challenge> Company by Yamagata Prefecture

The Yamagata Plant of Tohoku Sumidenso, Ltd., one of SWS's subsidiaries, was recognized by Yamagata Prefecture on June 5 as an excellent company for their environmental activities. In Yamagata Prefecture, various approaches have been implemented since fiscal 2007 to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by 7% (target).

In Yamagata Prefecture, the <Stop Waste: Yamagata Eco-Challenge Campaign> has also been implemented as activities by prefectural residents, in concert with the <TEAM -6%> implemented by the government to promote energy saving activities in households and industries.

In the Yamagata Plant of Tohoku Sumidenso, Ltd., we entered this campaign as a <Winter Eco-Style Challenge> company during the three-month winter period (December to February). 11 companies were selected out of approximately 700 applicants, and the Yamagata Plant had the privilege of being one of these 11 companies to be awarded.

In this screening, it was acknowledged that the result of CO2 reduction in the Yamagata Plant was remarkable (6% reduction compared to the same month in the previous year) under the specified criteria, such as setting heater temperature to 20 degrees Celcius, promotion of Warm Biz, reduction in power consumption, and implementation of Eco-driving. In addition to these, our original activities: Environmental Fair open to public, regional beautification volunteer activities, and using BDF (biodiesel fuel) for company vehicles, were highly appreciated.

We would like to use this award as a springboard for further reduction of CO2 and better communication with the community in the region.
