"Challenge-Eco 2010" Environmental Action Plan

The Sumitomo Wiring Systems group has defined the "Challenge-Eco 2010" action plan. This plan also covers activities overseas. The group is developing environmental preservation activities based on the plan.

The "Challenge-Eco 2010" action plan consists of four major activities: Strengthening environmental management; Promoting design and development of environmentally conscious products; Realizing clean factories; and Enhancing social contributions and communication. Each of these activities has its own goals for 2010.

By promoting the practice of "Challenge-Eco 2010," we contribute to the environment through our business activities and strive to build a sustainable society.

Established use of product environmental assessment during new design

Enhancement of cooperation with suppliers

Promotion of external EMS certification to be acquired by suppliers in Japan and overseas (80% or more of suppliers ranked A)

Control of substances of concern

Promotion of lead-free solder (target:complete elimination)

Energy saving (CO2 reduction)

Japan; 20% reduction in CO2 emissions (per basic unit for sales volume, compared to FY1990)

Overseas; 10% reduction in energy consumption (per basic unit for sales volume,compared to FY2006)

Promotion of logistics efficiency

Japan and overseas; 10% reduction of CO2 emissions (per basic unit for sales volume, compared to FY2006)

Reduction of total volume of waste

Japan;Elimination of industrial waste produced during manufacturing that is discharged outside the company

Overseas; 10% reduction of total volume of waste(per basic unit for sales volume, compared to FY2006)

Expansion and promotion of "zero emission"

Overseas; Achievement of "zero emission" at 50% or more of manufacturing bases

Control and reduction of substances of concern

Japan; 10% reduction in discharged or transferred substances regulated by PRTR Law (compared to FY2006)

Thorough control and promotion of reduction at overseas bases
